sutra 1.42

तत्र शब्दार्थज्ञानविकल्पैः संकीर्णा सवितर्का समापत्तिः ॥ १.४२ ॥ 

तत्र = There

tatra = in there, among these

śabda = sound

jñāna = knowledge

vikalpah= with choices

saṁkīrṇā= mingled with

savitarkā = with reasoning

samāpattiḥ= Samadhi, engrossment 

artha = meaning

In samāpattiḥ [the entrance to Samadhi], the logical mind is still engaged in reasoning, trying to differentiate intermingled words, meanings and perceptions.

Osho: SAVITARKA SAMADHI IS THE SAMADHI IN WHICH THE YOGI IS STILL UNABLE TO DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN THE REAL KNOWLEDGE, KNOWLEDGE BASED ON WORDS, AND KNOWLEDGE BASED ON REASONING OR SENSE PERCEPTIONS, WHICH ALL REMAIN IN THE MIND IN A MIXED STATE.
